Round One, page 12
on February 7, 2013 at 12:01 amCharacters: Danny Wilcox, Sal Walters
Location: Danny and Joe's dorm room
Yeah, I decided that running one of these pages and then the other would be kind of a dick move. They’re the same damn thing. Drawing the same event two days in a row may fly in Mary Worth, but this is professional webcomics, man!
This was my first major cliffhanger, landing the Friday before spring break. I was so proud of myself. I’m sure the vacationing denizens of Indiana University spent every waking moment in Cancun or whatever tossing and turning at night torturing themselves about the outcome.
You, however, get to see the exciting continuation TOMORROW!
Hooray, double comic day!
Sort of.
Aw, you coulda AniGIFed it and had it flip between the two every few seconds… just for added non-printable annoyance factor…
Wow, talk about art evolution. You could teach a course in this stuff. And you draw even better today.
Things have gotten weirder.
I enjoy seeing the shift from Willis berating his past writing to praising something he does every week now.
Not always. Some weeks the only cliffhanger is sadness.
It’s me. Hanging from a cliff.
And that’s why I’m called Cliff Hanger.
Amateur. My father was Mr Daniel Hanger, and my mother was of course married to him. They thought it would be funny to call me Clifford. Which of course can be shortened in various ways.
And now my secret identity is out. Damn.
Annnnyway, Ford J. Hanger esquire, please to meechya.
“Can’t… hold… on… much… longer!”
… Between the Lions, man. Nine year old me remembers that as a good show.
Oh man, I remember watching that as a kid!
Still pretty horrible cliffhanger. I once spent a saturday repeatedly refreshing in the hopes that just one he would put up a comic on that day. Willis do you know how little work I get done on perfectly good weekends when you do that to me?
I have to admit, I like the subtle difference in the two comics, that being Sal’s eyes. At least to me, I guess. The last comic page has her looking at Danny when she says “Hiya”, while the strip has her waving out to the fourth wall, as if to say “hey audience, I’m here now”.
Also just realizing? The door in the older-style has 128 as Danny and Joe’s room.
HMMMM…where else in the Walkyverse have I heard that…
Man, that really shouldn’t be 128. It should be 320. They’re on the third floor, not the first, after all.
So you’re saying that this wasn’t intentional in foreshadowing SEMME’s squad 128?
It was. I was just being stupid about it.
Minor nitpick, but Danny’s back arcing out with his feet in the room in one version and his leaning in the door in the other irks me. Did he, like, half-leap into his room in the split second while he’s screaming.
Something about the knees bug me too, like they are too well defined. Also, Sal’s shirt seems a little thick to me, like a life preserver. Still, its pretty neat that with such different style changes that both comics are pleasing to look at.
No, not the way they’re drawn. It’s the change in Danny’s position.
Nah, it’s not thick, it’s just belling out a little where it’s tucked into her jeans.
When I read this comic, and hit next I got pissed off at the lack of comic, since this is an old comic, then I facepalmed myself really hard for not realizing this comic is being currently worked on, I thought Willis just had gone and took a second look at his comics earlier in the year…
lol, it really looks like danny has old man gums instead of teeth!
“Shally? Ish that you?”
